SIN Chew Daily readers can now get their news fix with less hassle following the announcement of a collaboration between Sin Chew Media Corporation Bhd and postpaid mobile service provider redONE Network Sdn Bhd.
Customers who sign up for the redONE phone bundle programme with at least 3GB of data will receive a free annual subscription to the digital version of Sin Chew Daily.
“Even though we launched our e-paper morning edition just one-and-a-half years ago and it has exceeded 53,000 subscriptions per day, the e-paper alone is insufficient to shine and excel in this media landscape that is constantly evolving,” said Sin Chew Media Corporation group chief operating officer Tan Chee Yuen.
“Thus, a combination like this where the media owner works closely with a telecommunication network provider and mobile device company is a good way to keep growing and moving forward in this era,” Tan added.
“The Internet is filled with information and more often than not, we are faced with the challenge of determining the authenticity and credibility of the information.
“With the uncertainties that we currently face, we need to find ways to spread authentic news so people are not misinformed, and this collaboration is a great effort,” said redONE chief executive officer Farid Yunus.
The Huawei devices which are currently being offered as part of the redONE phone bundle programme are the Huawei Y635, Huawei MediaPad X1, Huawei Mate 7, and Huawei P8 Lite.
Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Consumer Business Group marketing director Danny Chin concurred with Tan, saying that in order to succeed in this challenging business environment, it was no longer about the competition but a strong partnership with mutual benefits between companies which can help each other to grow.
Besides Sin Chew, The Star also launched its e-paper phone bundle programme with redONE last month.
Customers who wish to subscribe to the phone bundle programme can start with a minimum of RM88 for the plan.
