A New Milestone for Serdang Badminton Club

SERDANG Badminton Club (BC) received a shot in the arm through a sponsorship deal with mobile service provider, redONE Network Sdn Bhd.

The sponsorship ceremony was attended by Serdang BC president Ong Ewe Hock, redONE Network Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Farid Yunus and redONE Network Sdn Bhd chief sales officer Ben Teh.

As a part of the deal, the sports club will receive cash funding to improve their training facilities as well as to bring in more foreign players to help train their local talents.

Ewe Hock, at one point the nation’s top-ranked player and World No. 2, was glad the club managed to partner up with a reliable sponsor.

“This move will open up more options for the club, such as sending more of our members to participate in local competitions.

“Perhaps if the situation is right, we might even consider sending players to international tournaments.

“However, our main focus for now would be to ensure our place in next season’s Purple League,” he said, while adding that the club was established two years ago.

This was following an invitation made by the Purple League’s organiser to several former national shuttlers, asking them to form groups for the purpose of participating in this tourney.

Prior to this, Ewe Hock had also set up the X-TRM Badminton Academy in hopes of uncovering future world class badminton players for the country.

Having defeated Puchong United Badminton Club in a recent match-up, Serdang BC is on track to reach the final rounds of the league.

The current stable of players for Serdang BC comprises of ranking local and foreign shuttlers including the recently crowned Malaysian female singles World Junior champion, Goh Jin Wei, who is only 15 years old.

For this year, redONE is sponsoring both of Serdang BC’s junior and senior squads shared Teh.

“We made the decision to support professional badminton in Malaysia so that the Malaysian youth will have accessible role models to look up to.

“Who knows? Along the way, they could be inspired to reach greater heights just like their idols,” said Farid.
